Obesity May Contribute to Organ Shortage – ABC News

ABC News is reporting that the pool of organ donors is shrinking. Not from AIDS, or some virus that can not be controlled, but because the donors are too fat. Most donation centers require the donor have a BMI under 35. This is becoming harder to find in America.

“As the kidney transplant waiting list grows, there is a great need for living donors,” Szczech said in the statement. “As a community, we need to identify ways to overcome this barrier so that we can increase our donor pool and end the wait for transplant.”
